Run Birmingham groups are free, fun and friendly
Joining the Run Birmingham movement couldn’t be easier. Simply enter your postcode in our online run finder to discover the groups that are local to you and turn up ready to meet others and get moving.
There’s no charge, no need to book ahead and everyone is welcome. If you have any questions about the session just email the run leader listed.
Here are a few tips to help you get started:
What group is right for me?
Beginners groups are suitable for all. No distance, no pressure – just gaining confidence, getting fitter and meeting new people with a warm welcome guaranteed.
Couch to 5k helps you from first steps to 5k distance in nine weeks. Take on this challenge together with your group.
The 5-10k will challenge you further or get you ready for that big event.
We even have groups going half or full marathon distance throughout the year, especially in the lead up to the popular Great Birmingham Runs.
If you are keen to run with like-minded people, we also organise activities for specific community groups including mums, school teachers/parents, local community groups and youth groups.
What should I wear?
Starting out, you’ll need trainers and some comfortable clothes. Long trousers and long sleeves are fine if you prefer them – whatever you’re most comfortable in. If the weather is bad or you’re running in the dark, some waterproof or hi-vis clothing can help.
What happens when I arrive?
You will be asked for some basic information by the Run Leader who will log your details on the Birmingham Health & Wellbeing app. They will ask a few questions about your general health to allow them to tailor the session to your needs. Remember, everybody was new once – and this is your opportunity to share your own personal goals and experiences with your friendly Run Leader.
